This morning my lungs felt like I had done too much sports yesterday. In other words, they kind of hurt when I try to breathe. Happens all the time after I exercise or run. So that wouldn’t be a big deal if it wasn’t for the fact that I haven’t done anything? But then again, I’ve also been known to get muscle aches for not sporting when I normally did, so maybe it’s just because I skipped volleyball? Who knows, my body is weird. I’m sure it will be back to normal soon.
Today I went to the ‘bad’ junior high school. Though really it’s no longer actually a bad school, it’s just not as fun as my other one. I guess I’ll start calling it my ‘average’ junior high school from now on. It’s really not that bad, as long as I have lots of classes. Class is fun, the teachers aren’t xD. Well, since I have to go to this school three times this week, this could potentially be a horrible week. I was chatting with my mum last weekend and I stated; they might only give me three hours or something. And guess what, they did.
I started with a second year class. Since they have a test tomorrow they had to do a pre-test. Which means I was completely useless… The next hour I had a third year class who were writing a speech about recycling, reusing, all that stuff. I was a bit less useless, though somehow my brain refused to do English? A student asked me 地球温暖 chikyuu ondan and all I could think about was opwarming van de aarde which is just the same thing in Dutch… Which doesn’t help when they’re writing a speech in English. I ended up telling him to use climate change. But that’s not quite it. Of course I looked it up after the class right away… And felt like an idiot. Global warming. I forgot the word for global warming. I feel like a complete idiot. That’s such a simple word, and in the news all the time as well, with Trump claiming it’s all a hoax and everything.
I made sure to write it on the student's paper, so he’d know for next time and apologized for giving him the wrong word, so that’s something. There was another student who had completely copied everything from the textbook while at the same time didn’t quite do the exercise. I wanted to talk about it with the teacher, but I didn’t see her anymore after class… So I just wrote it on the paper instead…
After the third year class I had another second year class, in which I was just as useless as the previous second year class… During the lunch break an English teacher asked me to help with the practice for the eiken, an English exam. We practised the speaking part and oh my god that was easy. I remember my exam for the Cambridge first certificate of English with things like: ‘compare and contrast these two pictures’ and ‘discuss this with your partner’, and where we had to talk for 15 minutes...
On the other hand, the eiken gives the students five questions. One about a short (three sentences) text, where they basically just have to repeat one of these sentences. The second and third are about a picture. In the practice exam these were: What is the boy going to do? (He was going to open the windows) and Where is the clock?
Where is the clock was deceptively easy. Where I would have answered: ‘On the wall behind the father.’ (or even just behind the father, because obviously it’s hanging on a wall), the correct answer was ‘on the wall.’ Really? That’s all?
The last two questions were: ‘What time did you go to bed last night?’ and ‘Do you like to eat at restaurants, if yes, why?’ Only the last question out of five is one where you have to make an actual English sentence and give a reason. I thought it was super easy (since the exam I took with the same amount of English lesson was the First Certificate) but they were really struggling. And these are the good students… Sometimes, I really wonder why the level is so low… They need better textbooks, because otherwise they’ll never learn…
When I walked back from school I went by the post office. The Dutch tax office wanted to know how much I had earned last year. I’m not even sure why, as I am paying my taxes in Japan, since I live here… But it said it was mandatory so I had to post it… It was quite expensive too T_T. At least I could also pay for my next year of Johnny’s WEST fanclub membership at the same time. I ran into someone from volley at the post office too (or really he just works there xD).
I also received my Are you Happy DVD and Kanjani's new CD :D It came in a huuuuge box and I was wondering why, but it turns out Kanjani's CD comes with a poster! I have not paid enough attention. I'm really excited to listen to it, since I'll be going to the tour :D As for Arashi, I know what I'm watching tonight :D
